WHAT THE????

I have never blogged. Never jumped over a skunk either. Am I stuck with that title? Wholey Moley.....I did almost walk into a skunk one day. Looking for wild roses while on a little nature walk. Looked up and there was a skunk rear end looking at me about 25 feet away. Tail up and ready to blast! I backed up slowly, watching that tail ever so closely, until I thought I was out of spray range. Thoughts of the two brothers that delivered the "Grit" weekly newspaper to us went through my head. 25 cents for the "Grit" plus a mad crush on the two brothers. I couldn't decide which one I thought was the cutest, so crushed on both. Mom would always tip them a nickel. I wonder how they split that nickel between the two of them. 2 1/2 cents doesn't go very far, even when there is penny candy to buy at the little store. So I am looking at that skunk and thinking about those brothers. I was in 3rd grade, they were in 5th (were they twins, I don't know), and the brothers walked through a big field to get to school. Acres and acres of a shortcut. They walked through that field and about one third of the way in, they ran across a skunk. Surprised him I would think and that skunk sprayed a load of stink on them like you would not believe. Well they debated as to whether or not they should continue on to school, as they were running kinda late that morning and didn't want to get in trouble for tardiness again. So they debated for a spell and decided that they would head off to school, because as they were talking, the stink seemed to be less awful. As they walked toward the school, the stink got less and less and by the time they saw the school swings, they decided they didn't stink at all. As I said, they were running late, no one was on the playground so they ran for the door, pushed it open and headed to class. Well I would guess that you know the rest. The school had to be aired out, and I heard the boys mom bought every can of tomato juice and tomato sauce in the little store to bathe those two stinkers in. I quess she threw in some pickle juice too. Don't know if it helped. The boys came back to school a few days later the smell was less then it had been, but still bad enough to make you wrinkle your nose. But I still had a crush and knew I always would, no matter how bad they smelled. Oh, and I didn't get sprayed, but ran home and didn't venture out that way for a few weeks.
